Start daydreaming and change the world

Picture

If your New Year's resolution hasn't worked out, try this simple exercise instead.  Start feeling happy and start changing the world...

Change the worldDon't like what you see? It's time to make changes

You CAN Change the World (and change your life)

Not happy with what’s going on in the world? There are some big energy shifts going on around the planet right now, and some of it is very uncomfortable to watch. If you’re looking about and you don’t like what you see, take heart, you CAN change the world. How? We don’t need a new political party, an army, or one billion dollars, we just need to start being happy. We are all part of this beautiful, big world and the changes we make radiate out to affect everything around us; it’s simple (!) quantum physics. All we need to do is start daydreaming. It really is that simple.

Light and love are contagious, like crystals in a chandelier; when you light up one, everything around it starts to shine too. So instead of bemoaning how terrible everything is, let’s empower ourselves and do something about it. Let’s wake up and light the way for a new start to a new year. What practical changes can you make to your life to make you happier? Here’s a simple exercise to try:

  1. Write a list or brainstorm the things you want to bring into your life right now. It can be anything: a new car, a dog, world peace, whatever springs to mind.
  2. Now go through the list and next to each item write a word to describe how you would feel if that thing came into your life. For example a new dog might make you feel happy, energised, loved.
  3. Have a look through the list and notice if there are any feelings that crop up several times? If there are, write the feelings out on another page.
  4. We might not be able to control what we get in life, but we do have control over how we want to feel. So take your list of feelings (which we’ll call your ‘wonderful vision’) and place it somewhere where you’ll see it several times a day eg inside the kitchen cupboard, the bathroom door, by your desk etc.
  5. Whenever you see your wonderful vision page, take 60 seconds to imagine the things that will trigger those feelings. Make it into a full scene to use all your senses: what will you see, hear, smell, feel, taste?

Daydreaming of a dog
Bringing the way want to feel into your life is a simple, effective way to trigger change. If you can really immerse yourself in the scene you want to imagine, and imagine that feeling a couple of times a day, several things are going to happen:

* Your nervous system will start to calm down.

* You’ll begin to feel more comfortable with silence.

* If you engage all your senses to feel wonderful, you’ll release endorphins, the feel-good hormones, and what you imagine will become how you actually feel.

So I’m going to make a start. Here’s my list (actually I’ve got two):

My first wonderful vision is peace and relaxation. I’m imagining a hot bath, aromatherapy massage and the day in front of the TV. I’ll go with the TV first. I can hear my favourite programme starting, I’m curled up on the comfy sofa with a blanket and I feel warm and cosy. I’m holding a mug of tea that tastes warm and sweet, and I feel happy, contented and at peace.

My second feeling is joy and laughter. I’m imagining a night out with friends, laughing and enjoying myself. I can hear the noise and bustle of the restaurant, music in the background, feel the smooth cotton tablecloth, hear the clink of glasses and good conversation. I know the food is going to taste wonderful.

So if you’re looking at your wonderful vision feeling and thinking you could do something about it right now, then go ahead, book the restaurant, free up an hour to watch the TV in your pyjamas…  But if that’s not possible yet, just go with the daydreaming. Remember to include all your senses to make it realistic. Ordinary daydreams won’t change the world but super-powered ones will!

You may not be able to bring the concrete things into your life straight away, but starting to feel good, as if you had them, will certainly bring about positive changes in your life. It’s not about feeling optimistic, it’s about making your daydreams so engaging that you start to release your feel-good hormones just at the thought of all the wonderful things in life – you’ll start to light up. As you light up, a ripple effect will happen as the people around you notice their light too. And that’s how one person can start to change the world. Smiling is contagious, and everyone wants to spend time with someone who feels happy. It’s official, daydreaming can improve your life and change the world.  Cue song:  Daydream Believer  (external Link).

So if your New Year’s resolution hasn’t worked out so far, try this simple exercise instead. Start daydreaming! Let’s get going, tell me your wonderful vision, how do you want to feel this year and what reminds you of that feeling?
